Regarding the incident in which a South Korean national was detained in Georgia, United States, President Lee Jae Myung on September 9 emphasized, "I hope that there will never again be any unjust infringement on the activities of our citizens and businesses, which are essential for the mutual development of both South Korea and the United States."


Presiding over a Cabinet meeting at the Presidential Office in Yongsan that day, President Lee stated, "I ask the relevant ministries to continue to manage the situation with utmost care until everyone returns safely."


President Lee also said, "Our citizens who were detained by U.S. immigration authorities are expected to return to Korea soon," and added, "I offer my deepest sympathies, as you must have been greatly shocked by this sudden event." He continued, "As the President, who bears ultimate responsibility for the safety of our people, I feel a strong sense of responsibility."


Additionally, President Lee stated, "Our government will work swiftly to implement reasonable institutional improvements through close consultations with the United States to prevent similar incidents from recurring," and added, "I ask that you make every effort in negotiations, based on mutual trust and the spirit of alliance, so that tangible results can be achieved."
