Accelerating the Branding of ‘Jinju in the Garden’
Utilizing Gardens as Tourism Resources
Jinju City in South Gyeongsang Province is accelerating the branding of ‘Jinju in the Garden’ by selecting a total of eight outstanding private gardens through its ‘Private Garden Discovery and Selection Project’ aimed at promoting garden culture in daily life this year.
Aiming to be designated as a national garden, Jinju City has been continuously carrying out the Private Garden Discovery and Selection Project to spread garden culture in everyday life and utilize gardens as tourism resources, including for garden tours. The city selected 15 outstanding private gardens in 2022, 13 in 2023, and eight in 2024, designating them as excellent gardens.
This year, applications were received in March, and after a document review and on-site evaluation, eight gardens were finally selected based on a comprehensive assessment of their uniqueness and historical value, appropriateness of size and materials, design, and maintenance status.
The outstanding gardens selected this time are: ‘Garden by the Lake’ in Daepyeong-myeon, ‘Garden de Pearl’ in Panmun-dong, ‘Jeongon’ in Geumsan-myeon, ‘Sosowon’ in Geumsan-myeon, ‘Fountain Garden’ in Insadong, ‘Unbongjeongsa’ in Jisu-myeon, ‘Antique Quilt’ in Sinan-dong, and ‘Ryujeong’s Garden’ in Myeongseok-myeon. Including these, Jinju City has discovered a total of 44 outstanding private gardens to date.
For the selected outstanding gardens, the city will present certificates and nameplates, and actively promote them through informational leaflets, the Jinju Garden website, and Instagram. In doing so, the city aims to share the unique value and stories of each garden with its citizens.
Meanwhile, Jinju City successfully hosted the ‘Korea Garden Industry Expo’ in June and is making multifaceted efforts to spread garden culture in daily life and develop it into a future cultural industry, with the goal of branding ‘Jinju in the Garden’ through national garden designation.
A city official stated, “We hope that the eight private gardens selected this year will serve as meaningful examples of citizen participation in fostering garden culture, and we sincerely congratulate all the garden owners selected.” The official added, “We will continue to create various opportunities to further promote garden culture in everyday life.”
