The National Office of Investigation of the Korean National Police Agency announced on August 6, 2025, that it had discussed countermeasures against stalking crimes in cooperation with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
During this meeting, participants shared recent major cases of stalking crimes and gathered opinions to ensure that a series of measures, such as victim protection and the separation of perpetrators, can be carried out promptly.
The Korean National Police Agency addressed the following topics: key points for improving understanding of relational crimes and responding proactively; understanding the Stalking Punishment Act to actively utilize emergency measures; actively interpreting and utilizing provisional measures in cases where there is a risk of recurrence; recognizing that the risk of reoffending in relational crimes is directly linked to concerns about evidence destruction; and maintaining the separation of perpetrators even after case referral, as well as notifying the police in the event of changes to provisional measures.
A representative from the Korean National Police Agency stated, "Responding to relational crimes must be faster and more thorough from the perspective of victim protection, making close interagency cooperation essential. We will work more closely together by establishing a constant cooperation system with relevant ministries, so that victims can trust that the state will protect them as soon as they report and that perpetrators will be separated from them."
