'Baemnae Park and Parking Lot' in Daeya-dong, Siheung to Be Completed in July

The 'Baemnae Park and Parking Lot', a key facility of the urban regeneration project in Daeya-dong, Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do, will be completed in July.

The Daeya Urban Regeneration Project in Siheung, which was selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's public contest in 2018, is promoting a variety of initiatives, including the creation of safe pedestrian paths, the establishment of community spaces for residents, the development of a green parking lot, the improvement of the Union Park rest area yard, and support for green building construction.

Daeya-dong has been experiencing ongoing urban decline as its population, commercial, and cultural spheres have become dispersed due to local residential land development and large-scale residential development in neighboring cities. Approximately 90% of buildings in the revitalization area are old structures, making urban regeneration strategies to revive the vitality of the original downtown and improve residents' quality of life urgently needed.

The 'Baemnae Park and Parking Lot', which is being completed this time, is being built at 500 Daeya-dong, Siheung-si. By utilizing the underground space of the existing Baemnae Children's Park, it will provide 59 parking spaces across 2,834 square meters, and will create an eco-friendly play area in the park to serve as a rest space for children and local residents.

The creation of Baemnae Park and Parking Lot is expected to resolve difficulties in vehicle passage caused by illegal parking in the area and secure safe pedestrian spaces. By providing an open space in the playground for children where residents can interact, it is also anticipated to improve the living environment and revitalize the local community.

Kim Tae-su, Director of Urban Regeneration at Gyeonggi-do, said, "We believe the urban regeneration project will make a significant contribution to improving the residential environment in Daeya-dong and restoring the vitality of the area," and added, "We will continue to work closely with cities and counties to actively improve living conditions in the original downtown."
