This screening was carried out in cooperation with the Jangsu County Public Health Center and the Jeonbuk Branch of the Korean National Tuberculosis Association, utilizing a mobile screening vehicle and professional staff. The process included medical interviews and chest X-rays, and for those with suspected findings, additional sputum tests were conducted.
Recently, the proportion of tuberculosis patients among people aged 65 and above has been steadily increasing, making regular tuberculosis screenings for early detection and treatment more important than ever. This mobile screening is expected to significantly improve medical accessibility for the elderly and help prevent the spread of tuberculosis within the local community in advance.
Tuberculosis is a respiratory infectious disease transmitted through the air by coughing or sneezing. Practicing proper cough etiquette, such as covering the mouth and nose with a tissue, handkerchief, or sleeve, can help prevent infection.
Jung Kyungjoo, Director of Medical Support, stated, "Elderly people aged 65 and above are particularly vulnerable to tuberculosis due to lower immunity, so it is essential to undergo regular screenings once a year even if there are no symptoms." He also called for active participation from county residents.
Meanwhile, the county plans to conduct an additional mobile tuberculosis screening for about 80 elderly people in Beonam-myeon on June 26. For more information regarding tuberculosis screenings, please contact the Tuberculosis Management Office at the Jangsu County Public Health Center.
