"An Act That Destroys Liberal Democracy"
On May 4, presidential candidate Han Duksoo stated, "If the Democratic Party of Korea pushes for the impeachment of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, it would be an anti-constitutional outrage."
Appearing on Channel A's News A that day, Han said, "It is an act that destroys the liberal democracy that has supported our country so far and has allowed our people to live happily."
Han emphasized, "The justices who make up the Supreme Court are truly dedicated individuals who serve the nation and its people," adding, "I firmly believe that they have not done anything that would warrant impeachment proceedings."
When asked by the host how he would evaluate Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jaemyung, Han replied, "I do not wish to comment on a specific politician," but added, "What is important for a politician is to clearly understand that no one is above the law."
When asked whether he would be willing to accept unfavorable conditions presented by the camp of Kim Moonsu, who was selected as the People Power Party's presidential candidate, Han answered, "There are no conditions for unification talks. I will accept everything unconditionally."
Asked whether he could keep his pledge to shorten the presidential term to three years, Han said, "I will definitely keep it," and explained, "I have seen too many times that when circumstances change or problems arise in the pursuit of power, major reforms, including constitutional amendments, are discarded. I will never let that happen."
Regarding whether he had communicated with former President Yoon Sukyeol about his presidential bid, Han said, "It was purely my personal decision," and added, "I made this decision because I believe it is my final service for our country and our people."
