Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) has been officially selected as the final contractor for the new nuclear power plant project in the Czech Republic, a project valued at 26 trillion won.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Czech government held a cabinet meeting on April 30 (local time) to approve the budget for nuclear power plant construction and plans to sign the main contract with KHNP on May 7.
The Ministry stated, "We welcome the Czech government's decision," adding, "Both countries are discussing plans for the signing ceremony, and we will do our utmost to ensure its successful execution."
As a result, KHNP and Dukovany II Nuclear Power Plant (EDU II), a subsidiary of Czech power company CEZ and the ordering party, are expected to finalize the contract at the signing ceremony on May 7.
Once the contract is concluded, KHNP will construct units 5 and 6 at the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant complex in the Czech Republic, which currently operates four nuclear reactors.
This marks the first export of a Korean nuclear power plant in 16 years since the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2009.
