Visiting Infectious Disease Prevention Education for Daycare Centers and Long-term Care Facilities
Easy and Highly Effective Customized Education by Facility and Target Group
Geumcheon-gu (District Mayor Yoo Seonghun) announced that it will provide infectious disease prevention education and handwashing experience activities for children attending daycare centers, as well as for workers and users of facilities vulnerable to infections.
Group facilities, due to the high density of people living and engaging in activities together, are particularly susceptible to rapid spread and large-scale outbreaks of infectious diseases. In particular, children and the elderly, who have weaker immune systems, are more vulnerable to infections, making proactive prevention education especially important.
In response, the district is operating a "Visiting Infectious Disease Prevention Education" program to protect the health of high-risk groups in group facilities and to promote the regular practice of infection prevention. The Geumcheon-gu Public Health Center will directly visit facilities vulnerable to infection, such as daycare centers, long-term care institutions, and day and night care centers, to conduct the education on-site.
The prevention education for daycare centers targets children aged two and older, using educational materials tailored to their level, such as children's songs, webtoons, and animated cartoons. In addition, children will participate in a handwashing experience using fluorescent lotion and a UV lamp. This allows them to visually check areas that are often missed during handwashing and to learn the correct six steps of handwashing.
For facilities vulnerable to infection, customized education is provided that takes into account the size of the facility, the status of workers, and the characteristics of their duties. Theoretical education covers symptoms of infectious diseases, prevention guidelines, ventilation, and disinfection methods, while practical training includes hand sanitization, handwashing, and the donning and doffing of personal protective equipment, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of the education.
Before and after the training, the effectiveness of the education will be objectively measured through an assessment of awareness regarding infection prevention and control, with the aim of improving the rate of infection prevention practices. Certificates of completion will be issued to workers who complete the training.
Additionally, consulting services will be provided to strengthen infection prevention and management. Upon request from a facility, an infectious disease epidemiologist will visit the site to inspect for vulnerabilities in infection control and offer advice on improvements.
Yoo Seonghun, District Mayor, stated, "We expect that customized infectious disease prevention education, tailored to the characteristics of each facility and target group, will enhance the response capabilities of group facilities and proactively prevent group outbreaks of infectious diseases. We will continue to expand practical, hands-on education that is truly helpful in order to further strengthen residents' ability to practice infection prevention."
