Yongsan-gu launches real-time smart map system
“Implementing data-driven smart administration”
Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) announced on the 7th that it has established and is providing a real-time smart map system that offers residents information such as real-time floating population, location data, and construction status.
The Yongsan real-time smart map can be accessed from the ‘Frequently Used Services’ section on the Yongsan-gu Office homepage. It supports effective crowd management based on real-time floating population data while providing residents with intuitive map services related to district administration.
The real-time floating population data is collected every 5 minutes using mobile communication base station data from telecom companies. It provides information on population density and the rate of increase or decrease compared to one hour ago for 16 neighborhoods within the district, as well as 14 major locations including Itaewon Tourist Special Zone, Haebangchon, Gyeongridan-gil, Yongridan-gil, and Ichon Hangang Park.
Yongsan-gu explained, “By understanding congestion levels in real time and predicting trends, efficient crowd management and preemptive responses are possible. It is also possible to check statistics on the floating population by gender and age, and we plan to design customized policies using this data.”
In terms of location information, facilities by category can be viewed at a glance. The system includes location information in eight fields across the entire Yongsan-gu or within specific administrative neighborhoods: public order and safety, education, culture, sports and tourism, social welfare, general public administration, regional development, environmental protection, and transportation and logistics. Under these categories, there are 27 detailed types of information such as daycare centers, youth study rooms, libraries, cultural spaces, rainwater pumping stations, and public parking lots.
The construction status section displays information about ongoing construction sites in the area. It is composed of details such as building permit number, construction period, location, scale, contractor and supervisor, and the responsible department to enhance convenience for residents.
District Mayor Park Hee-young stated, “Data-driven smart administration is no longer a choice but a necessity. We will continue to improve and expand the system to enhance residents’ convenience and realize smart urban administration.”
