Plans Established for Four Key Areas Including Health Care and Crime Prevention
Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) announced on the 26th that it will invest 7.593 billion KRW to actively promote support projects for single-person households to address the social and economic issues caused by the increase in single-person households.
The district will implement 31 detailed projects across four areas: health and care, welfare and relationship building, housing and living support, and crime prevention and safety. In the health and care sector, to prevent social isolation and solitary deaths, Seongbuk-style Care SOS project, daily care support project, customized elderly care services, and vulnerable senior safety management solution (IoT) projects will be expanded to strengthen the care safety net across all generations, from youth and middle-aged to elderly.
In the welfare and relationship building sector, services such as Smart Welfare Check service, pilot project for solitary death prevention management, Single-Person Household Support Center, single-person household club activity support, Singgeulbeonggeul Sarangbang, middle-aged happy meal solo dining class, and social activity support projects for youth in blind spots will be implemented to prevent solitary deaths among middle-aged and older generations and to build social networks for reclusive middle-aged and youth in blind spots.
For housing and living support, projects include the Neighbor Angel Real Estate project, which offers a 50% reduction in brokerage fees for young single-person households, and single-person household item rental and neighborhood living coupon projects to prevent isolation and improve living conditions for single-person households.
Additionally, crime and safety support projects will be promoted, including providing safety equipment such as smart doorbells and home cameras to single-person households, and safe return scout services.
This year, the district has set “prevention of social isolation and formation of social relationships” as the key focus of the single-person household support projects, establishing the Wise Single-Person Household Support Center and expanding social network formation support projects.
Through the Single-Person Household Support Center, the district plans to participate in various public contest projects to help youth who have aged out of protection become independent, prevent isolation and loneliness among single-person households, and form stable social networks. It will also operate communal meal programs for middle-aged single-person households such as “Escape from Solo Dining” and “Happy Meal,” and “Healthy Meal” for young single-person households. To foster social networks, club activities like Illangi Samsam-oso and Illangi Running Crew, as well as middle-aged experiential programs such as Illangi Monthly Life and Illangi Walking Tour, will be supported.
Mayor Lee Seung-ro said, “With the increase in single-person households, not only housing and health issues but also economic burdens and social isolation problems are intensifying. We will comprehensively manage the single-person household policies that were previously pursued individually by each department to ensure practical support is provided.”
