Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, attended the completion ceremony of the ‘Gongdeok Babysitter House Daycare Center’ held at 2 p.m. on March 21.
Currently, while the birth rate is declining and the utilization rate of childcare facilities is decreasing, dual-income families and others face a supply-demand imbalance due to a shortage of daycare centers where children can be left for long hours.
The ‘Babysitter House Daycare Center’ is a specialized childcare project unique to Mapo District aimed at solving this problem. Compared to existing public daycare centers, it offers extended operating hours, more assistant teachers, spacious indoor play areas, and meal services providing three meals a day, creating an optimal childcare environment.
The Gongdeok Happiness Cross City Daycare Center (19, Baekbeom-ro 31-gil, Mapo-gu) operates from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the exclusive area per infant is 7㎡, which is more than 1.5 times larger than the previous 4.29㎡, allowing children to play indoors without worrying about fine dust.
The completion ceremony was attended by Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, executives of the National Public Daycare Association, and parents of children attending the daycare center. After his commemorative speech, Mayor Park toured the completed daycare center with the parents to inspect the site.
Mayor Park Gang-su stated, “In 2024, the number of newborns in our district increased by 13.2%, significantly surpassing the national and Seoul city averages,” and added, “Mapo District will ensure that the laughter of children resonates more through childcare policies such as the ‘Sunlight Center,’ ‘Cheokkeut Center,’ and ‘Mom Cafe.’”
