Joint Effort by Citizens, Government, and Police
to Ensure Children's Traffic Safety
Yeongju City conducted a "Safe School Route Traffic Safety Campaign" on the 19th in the area around Seobu Elementary School to secure safe commuting routes in children's protection zones.
This campaign was organized by the Yeongju Green Mothers' Association (President Kim Sujeong), with over 80 participants including Jeong Byeonggon, Director of Economic and Industrial Affairs of Yeongju City, Yoon Taeyoung, Chief of Yeongju Police Station, Park Jongjin, Superintendent of Yeongju Office of Education, and Seo Yongwon, President of the Yeongju Retired Police Officers Association. The participants focused on spreading a pedestrian-centered traffic culture by guiding children on traffic safety.
The campaign was held for 40 minutes starting from 8:00 a.m., during school commuting hours. Participants inspected the safety conditions of crosswalks, median strips, and other areas around the school routes.
They also distributed traffic safety promotional items to children on their way to school, emphasized safety rules, and urged drivers to observe speed limits and drive safely within children's protection zones.
An official from Yeongju City stated, "As social interest in safety has increased, we hope all members of society will raise their awareness of traffic safety so that all citizens of Yeongju, including children, can be safe from traffic accidents."
The city is taking the lead in creating a safe commuting environment by deploying 32 traffic safety guardians intensively at 12 local elementary schools to strengthen crackdowns on illegal parking and traffic guidance around school routes. In addition, the city is making every effort to establish advanced traffic culture and infrastructure by improving children's and senior citizens' protection zones and installing traffic safety facilities.
