Held a Roundtable with Local Governments on Economic Revitalization Measures
Choi Tae-won, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), visited Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk, to inspect the site of the '2025 APEC Business Leaders Event' scheduled to be held in October alongside the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting.

According to KCCI on the 18th, Chairman Choi, who serves as the Chairperson of the '2025 APEC CEO Summit,' visited Gyeongju for two days starting from the 17th to check the preparation status of the APEC business leaders event. Park Il-jun, Executive Vice Chairman of KCCI, and Lee Hyung-hee, Vice Chairman of the Seoul Chamber of Commerce, accompanied him.
At a meeting on 'APEC CEO Summit Economic Revitalization Measures' held the previous day with the attendance of Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, and Joo Nak-young, Mayor of Gyeongju, Chairman Choi emphasized, "The APEC CEO Summit is an important event where economic leaders of the Asia-Pacific region gather to explore future growth and cooperation directions."
He added, "I hope that local governments and businesses can closely cooperate so that this can serve as an opportunity to invigorate not only Gyeongju and Gyeongbuk but also the regional economy as a whole."
According to a joint analysis by KCCI and Deloitte Consulting, the economic effect of hosting APEC is expected to reach 7.4 trillion KRW. The short-term direct effects, including economic revitalization and domestic consumption activation, are estimated at 3.3 trillion KRW, while the medium- to long-term indirect effects, such as economic and social benefits, are analyzed to be around 4.1 trillion KRW. The employment inducement effect is expected to total 22,634 jobs.
KCCI stated, "We are planning events to enhance the economic ripple effects of APEC and invigorate local industries and the economy," introducing the 'Future Tech Summit' themed on advanced technology, the 'K-Tech Showcase' presenting the technological capabilities of Korean companies, and the 'Spouse Program' for experience and exchange.
Before the local government meeting, Chairman Choi visited the Gyeongju Arts Center, the candidate venue for the APEC CEO Summit. After a conversation with Governor Lee, he toured the Arts Center facilities and checked the overall event preparation status. He also personally inspected participant accommodations, the welcome banquet venue, and sites for subsidiary events.
Lee Sung-woo, Director of the International Trade Headquarters at KCCI, said, "This APEC business leaders event is an important opportunity to present South Korea's innovation capabilities and future vision," adding, "We will do our best to achieve a successful hosting through cooperation with the government, local governments, and businesses."
APEC is an international organization established to strengthen economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, with a total of 21 economies participating as members.
KCCI hosts the 'APEC CEO Summit,' attended by global business leaders and representatives of member countries during the APEC period, as well as the 'ABAC Meeting,' an advisory body of APEC business leaders. To this end, it operates the APEC CEO Summit Task Force and the ABAC Korea Secretariat.
