Uiseong Sansuyu Village Welcomes Spring with a Golden Festival

Despite the cold snap of March, the Cornus officinalis, known as the harbinger of spring, has burst into full bloom.

In Sansuyu Village, Sagok-myeon, Uiseong County, North Gyeongsang Province, the representative Sansuyu Festival of Uiseong will be held on the 22nd.


The bright yellow Cornus officinalis flowers bloom from late March to early April, creating a vibrant spring atmosphere that captivates visitors.


Sansuyu Village is home to a colony of over 30,000 Cornus officinalis trees, each more than 300 years old. The village is filled with waves of yellow blossoms and light green garlic fields, creating a picturesque spring landscape.


This year, the flowers have bloomed about a week earlier than usual, which is welcome news for those eager to greet spring. In the warm weather, families, couples, and photographers gather to take memorable photos against the backdrop of the blooming Cornus officinalis.


Every year around this time, Uiseong County hosts a Cornus officinalis flower event. Although there is no official festival program, the village is bustling with visitors from all over the country.


The county has improved major walking trails and expanded parking facilities for the convenience of visitors, and is also promoting local specialties in cooperation with nearby businesses.


The fruit of the Cornus officinalis is known in traditional medicine for supporting kidney and reproductive health, as well as aiding blood circulation and vitality.


Teas and beverages made from Cornus officinalis fruit continue to be popular among health-conscious consumers, and the village also offers spaces where visitors can experience traditional foods made with Cornus officinalis.


An official from Uiseong County said, "We have done our best to prepare so that residents and tourists can fully enjoy nature in comfort," and added, "We hope you will create special spring memories among the Cornus officinalis flowers that have bloomed after overcoming the winter." He also stated, "We plan to further develop Sansuyu Village as a representative tourist destination of Uiseong to contribute to the revitalization of the local economy."


Meanwhile, Uiseong County is also home to Sachon Street Forest, designated as a Natural Monument, the haengdan of Administrative Gwonsik, and the thousand-year-old temple Gounsa on Deungunsan. Gounsa is a historic temple that preserves its natural state and houses three cultural properties designated as treasures.
