According to the Hanam City Council on the 11th, the New Year meeting this year was held over four weeks, touring all 13 Dong Administrative Welfare Centers from Cheonhyeon-dong on the 3rd of last month to Gambuk-dong on the 6th. This event was the second communication forum following the first-ever ‘Meeting with Dong Related Organization Heads’ held in October last year in the history of the Hanam City Council.
The 2025 New Year meeting departed from the traditional one-sided speeches and reports, instead sharing the progress of a total of 105 complaints and suggestions collected during the first ‘Meeting with Dong Related Organization Heads’ in October last year. Chairman Geum Gwang-yeon and council members listened attentively, addressing citizens’ frustrations and complaints, welcoming even harsh criticism.
The New Year meeting, held four months after the first meeting in October last year, was praised for visibly resolving complaints in a short period, such as the ‘Completion of Shade Installation at Misa Lake Park Stair Plaza’ and the ‘Installation of a Warehouse for the Saemaeul Project in Deokpung 3-dong,’ which helped relieve the pent-up frustrations of citizens.
Additionally, the council shared detailed information on complaints currently being processed or planned for processing. For complaints that could not be addressed due to lack of legal grounds, the council provided transparent and prompt explanations from the residents’ perspective to prevent unnecessary misunderstandings and speculation.
Regarding the ‘Status of Handling Suggestions from Meetings with Related Organization Heads,’ there are △21 cases completed △40 cases in progress △29 cases planned △14 cases not processable △1 other case. The council plans to conduct on-site inspections, review relevant laws, and strive for prompt handling. They will also thoroughly manage follow-ups by sharing progress and complaint handling results with residents through the respective Dongs.
Chairman Geum Gwang-yeon stated, “As local administration becomes more specialized and complex, the authority and role of organization heads have grown, making the position and authority of local councils responsible for oversight and monitoring equally important and weighty. The executive branch should actively review and reflect residents’ opinions and complaints presented by the council and respond swiftly even to minor complaints together with the council to enhance citizens’ sense of happiness.”
He added, “Our council will spare no support and cooperation for policies aimed at Hanam’s development and citizens within the checks and balances against the executive branch. To realize the 9th council’s second half slogan, ‘A Dignified Council Walking with Citizens,’ I will be a chairman who runs to the sites of issues and complaints, sharing joys and sorrows with citizens, and devote myself to responsible council activities for the citizens.”
