Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital announced on the 5th that Professors Song Gayoung and Yang Deokhwan from the Department of Hematology, and Professor Kang Seryeong from the Department of Nuclear Medicine, have been selected as "People Who Illuminate Korea."

The POSTECH Biological Research Information Center (BRIC) selects and introduces Korean scientists as "People Who Illuminate Korea (Hanbitsa)" if they have published papers in the field of life sciences in global journals that are either cited more than 10 times or ranked in the top 3% by journal citation data from the Journal Citation Reports.

The research team's paper from Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital, which was selected for Hanbitsa, titled "Prognostic Value of 18F-FDG PET in Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma: Interim Metabolic Response Assessment for Improved Patient Stratification," was published in the latest issue of Clinical Nuclear Medicine (impact factor 10.0), the leading journal in the field of clinical nuclear medicine.

This study analyzed the role of interim 18F-FDG positron emission tomography (PET) scans in predicting the prognosis of patients with primary central nervous system lymphoma.

The research team found that evaluating the metabolic response at the interim treatment stage can help predict patient prognosis. The assessment of metabolic response using FDG PET is gaining attention for providing more precise prognostic information, especially in patient groups assessed as having partial remission by conventional evaluation methods.
