Gyeonggi Province will implement emergency reduction measures starting from 6 a.m. on the 21st in response to the issuance of the fine dust crisis alert at the 'Interest' level.
The Ministry of Environment previously issued a fine dust crisis alert at the 'Interest' level for the Seoul metropolitan area, including Gyeonggi, Seoul, and Incheon, at 5 p.m. on the 20th.
This emergency reduction measure was issued following the fine dust advisory on the 20th (hourly average concentration exceeding 75㎍/㎥ for more than 2 hours) and the forecast that fine dust concentration will exceed 50㎍/㎥ on the 21st.
On the 21st, administrative and public institutions will allow only odd-numbered vehicles to operate, excluding vehicles for persons with disabilities, pregnant women, infants and young children, special-purpose vehicles, electric and hydrogen vehicles, and hybrid eco-friendly vehicles.
At large fine dust emission sites within the province, including public facilities such as waste incineration plants, measures such as changing operating hours, adjusting operating rates, or improving the efficiency of prevention facilities will be implemented.
Construction sites will implement dust suppression measures such as changing and adjusting construction hours and covering dust with tarps, with a particular emphasis on strengthening road cleaning in urban areas.
Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate, Environment, and Energy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "With the issuance of the high-concentration fine dust emergency reduction measures, we plan to thoroughly implement sector-specific reduction measures including the emergency reduction measures." He also urged, "We ask all residents to pay close attention to personal health management by following high-concentration fine dust response guidelines such as refraining from going out and wearing masks."
