Korean Bar Association Issues Statement on June 20
Emphasizes Strict Accountability for Court Riot Incident
Calls for Detention Investigation of Those Who Threatened Judges
Warns Political Circles Against Fueling Conflict
Expresses Concern Over Repeated Acts Amid Unhealed Public Wounds
The Korean Bar Association (KBA) issued a statement on the 20th regarding the riot incident at the Western District Court, stating, "Any threat to the court, the heart of the rule of law, cannot be tolerated for any reason," and called for a strict investigation.
The KBA said, "Those responsible for this court intrusion terror incident, which denies and tramples on the rule of law, must be held strictly accountable under the law." It also emphasized, "We express serious concern over the current situation where the rule of law has been severely damaged, and those who attacked the court, the core of the judiciary, and threatened the safety of judges must be investigated under detention as a principle."
The KBA also sternly warned the political circles that exploit extreme confrontation and conflict. It added, "We must quickly normalize the situation in the Republic of Korea, which is suffering from confrontation and conflict, through cooperation."
In particular, the KBA stated, "If terrorist acts are repeated while the wounds of the people have not yet healed from the sudden declaration of martial law on December 3, the precious daily lives of the people will no longer be sustainable."
