Selected as a New Regional Cerebrovascular Disease Center
Cerebrovascular Disease Prevention System in the East Coast Region

On the 19th, Pohang City announced that Pohang Semyung Christian Hospital was finally selected in the Ministry of Health and Welfare's competition for the designation of 'Regional Cerebrovascular Disease Centers' to establish a response system for severe and emergency cerebrovascular diseases.

On the 16th, the Ministry of Health and Welfare held a meeting of the Cerebrovascular Disease Management Committee and designated 10 locations, including Pohang Semyung Christian Hospital, as Regional Cerebrovascular Disease Centers.

So far, one Central Cerebrovascular Disease Center and 14 Regional Cerebrovascular Disease Centers have been operating nationwide. With the selection of 10 Regional Cerebrovascular Disease Centers this time, a central-regional-local cerebrovascular disease response system has been completed, which is expected to contribute to specialized treatment for cerebrovascular disease patients and to resolving medical imbalances between regions.

Pohang Semyung Christian Hospital, designated as a Regional Cerebrovascular Disease Center, will provide 24-hour final acute treatment for cerebrovascular disease patients in the region and will be responsible for disease prevention management education for discharged patients and regional promotion.

In addition, it will establish a cooperative system with the Regional Cerebrovascular Disease Centers and play a key role in timely treatment through rapid transfer when necessary.

Pohang City operates the Pohang Hypertension and Diabetes Registration Management Center to manage hypertension and diabetes, which are preceding diseases of cerebrovascular disease, and provides medical expense support (consultation fees and medication costs), health education, and counseling for hypertension and diabetes patients visiting clinics and pharmacies.

Last year, the cumulative number of registrants at the Pohang Hypertension and Diabetes Registration Management Center reached 61,760, with about 80,000 cases of medical expense support.

Accordingly, Pohang City plans to do its best to promote the health and improve the quality of life of local residents by establishing a cooperative system with Pohang Semyung Christian Hospital, designated as a Regional Cerebrovascular Disease Center.
