About 1,400 Officers, Including Riot Police, Deployed to Suppress Protest
On the 19th, when President Yoon Seok-yeol was arrested on charges of leading a rebellion, his supporters stormed the Western District Court.
At around 3 a.m. that day, upon hearing the news of the issuance of an arrest warrant for President Yoon, the supporters became extremely agitated and broke through police barricades at the back gate of the court.
The supporters smashed the main gate and windows of the court with shields and plastic chairs taken from the police, and by around 3:21 a.m., they had entered the court building. They also assaulted police officers and sprayed fire extinguishers at the police. The exterior walls of the court building were torn and damaged.
At around 3:32 a.m., the police deployed a large number of officers inside the court and began suppressing the supporters. A YouTuber, when arrested by the police, excused himself by saying he "just got dragged in."
The resistance from the supporters was fierce, and the police mobilized about 1,400 personnel, including riot police. During this process, 45 supporters were detained on charges such as trespassing. Including the 40 people arrested the previous day for climbing over the court fence, the total number of detainees over the two days reached 85.
