Caught on Camera: Clip Fastened to Back of Fire-Resistant Suit
Controversy Over "Caring More About Appearance Than the News"
An ABC News anchor who was live broadcasting a massive wildfire in Los Angeles (LA), California, USA, became embroiled in controversy over his fire-resistant suit.
David Muir, anchor of ABC News' "World News Tonight with David Muir," recently reported live from the wildfire damage site in LA wearing a fire-resistant suit. However, a wooden clip on his back was caught on camera, drawing criticism from netizens. The clip was used to secure the loose fire-resistant suit to make it appear well-fitted, which became the center of the controversy.
Other netizens also debated Muir's fire-resistant suit. Most criticisms included comments like "He cares more about his appearance than the news" and "Pathetic narcissism."

Jack Osbourne, a British-American broadcaster, shared a video of this on his X (formerly Twitter) account. He sarcastically said, "Nice jacket," and added, "Glad he looks stylish and slim with that pin while our city is burning." He also tagged Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, in the post.
However, some expressed that they could not understand the criticism against Muir. One netizen rebutted, "He just pinned it so the wind wouldn't make the clothes flutter," and added, "I don't like him much, but it seems like a good method."
Muir has been working as an anchor at ABC News since 2003. In September last year, he also moderated the debate between Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
Meanwhile, the wildfire that broke out on the 8th in the affluent Pacific Palisades area of LA has rapidly spread, burning 108 km², equivalent to 8.4% of the entire LA area, and continues to expand. According to California state and LA County authorities as of 10 a.m. local time on the 10th, five wildfires are ongoing within LA County. So far, 10 people have died and about 180,000 have evacuated.
At least 10,000 buildings have been damaged by the fire, with over 5,300 buildings destroyed in the affluent Pacific Palisades, where many Hollywood stars and wealthy individuals reside.
Authorities, with support from the federal government, have been working to contain the fire but are reportedly facing difficulties.
