Mapo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Gang-su) is embarking on a full-scale initiative to strengthen communication with residents in the Year of the Blue Snake (Eulsa Year).

Starting with Mangwon 1-dong on January 7, the ‘2025 Dong Happiness and Communication Day with the Mayor’ will be held in all 16 neighborhoods until January 23.

During this Dong Communication Day, Mayor Park Gang-su will share the 2025 Mapo-gu administrative goals and major projects with residents and directly listen to local issues along with New Year greetings.

Before the main event begins, exemplary residents who have brightened the local community will be awarded in each neighborhood to instill pride and inspiration.

This year’s ‘Dong Communication Day’ will include new segments such as ‘Our Neighborhood Has Changed,’ where residents introduce the transformed aspects of their area, and ‘Neighborhood Specialized Project Reports’ to enhance the meaning of resident autonomy and broaden communication.

The neighborhood specialized projects were selected after gathering opinions from the 16 neighborhood community centers and undergoing review to realize practical resident autonomy. Representative projects include emergency disaster safety funds, very small concerts, flea market operations, and flower path creation projects.

‘Dong Communication Day’ will proceed in the following order: Mangwon 1-dong (January 7), Gongdeok-dong (January 9), Seongsan 2-dong (January 10), Yonggang-dong and Seogyo-dong (January 14), Hapjeong-dong and Daehyeong-dong (January 15), Yeomni-dong and Mangwon 2-dong (January 16), Ahyeon-dong and Yeonnam-dong (January 17), Seongsan 1-dong (January 20), Seogang-dong (January 21), Sinsu-dong and Sangam-dong (January 22), and Dohwa-dong (January 23).

The district plans to actively reflect residents’ opinions in district administration through the ‘Dong Communication Day’ and use it as an important forum for discussing solutions to local issues.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “We will actively incorporate residents’ valuable opinions into district administration and make this a focal point for resolving local issues. Through communication, we will strive to further develop Mapo-gu and improve residents’ quality of life by actively addressing inconveniences and conflicts.”

Last year’s ‘Dong Communication Day’ received a total of 89 resident proposals across various fields such as transportation and construction, urban environment, welfare, and culture and tourism. These were promptly verified on-site and legally reviewed to resolve complaints.
