Handonghun Faces Growing Resignation Pressure... Na Kyungwon "Strongly Agrees with the Mercenary Ban Theory"

Korea does not express intention to resign
Lee Sang-hwi "Cannot work with selfish people"

Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the People Power Party, is facing intense pressure to resign from party lawmakers following the passage of the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol. Although the entire leadership team of five elected supreme council members resigned taking responsibility for the passage of the impeachment motion, effectively collapsing the 'Han Dong-hoon leadership,' Han has refused to step down. According to the People Power Party's constitution and regulations, if four out of the five elected supreme council members resign, the leadership will transition to an emergency committee system.

On the 15th, Na Kyung-won, a lawmaker from the People Power Party, stated on her social media, "As soon as Han Dong-hoon, the emergency committee chairman, joined the party, a fight between the president and Han began," adding, "During that fight, our party suffered a crushing defeat in the general election. After the election, Han, who emerged as the leader, always directed his criticism at the president."

Na continued, "Even when the opposition party mercilessly impeached the chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, preventing a proper appointment, impeached the head of the Board of Audit and Inspection, and impeached the chief of the Central District Prosecutors' Office, it was difficult to hear the voice of our party leader," and added, "The president's approval rating temporarily rose during the two weeks when the party leader refrained from criticizing the president amid the party members' bulletin board incident." She then said, "Was there a greed to simply use a person who had no connection with our party? I strongly agree with Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo's stance against mercenaries," and asserted, "The People Power Party has transitioned to an emergency committee system. According to the party constitution, the chairperson of the National Committee must promptly proceed with follow-up measures to establish the emergency committee."

On the same day, lawmaker Lee Sang-hwi also posted on his social media, "'Did I cast the vote?' 'Did I declare martial law?' Han's words keep ringing in my ears," expressing, "I am in despair." It is reported that during the People Power Party lawmakers' meeting held after the passage of the impeachment motion, when lawmakers confronted Han demanding responsibility for the impeachment, he responded in this manner. The People Power Party is believed to have had at least 12 dissenting votes in this impeachment vote.

Lee said, "However, what is clear is that we cannot stand with selfish individuals who, under the guise of conviction and principles, abandon comrades and the party and bring joy to criminals," urging Han to resign.
