Selected for Rural Creative Tour Contest Project Two Years in a Row
Setting Goal to Attract 1 Million Daily Population
Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 9th that the joint council "Geochanghage Noneun Beop" was selected for the "Rural Creatour Support Project" hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for the second consecutive year.
The Rural Creatour Project is a newly introduced initiative this year aimed at revitalizing rural tourism and economy, and injecting new vitality into rural areas weakened by the COVID-19 pandemic. This project focuses on providing visitors with creative and new experiences through hands-on activities and relaxation.
Geochang-gun successfully operated a Geochang-style wellness product under the brand "Mystical Wellness, Geochang" through the council "Geochanghage Noneun Beop," which consists of the Geochang-gun Rural Experience and Recreation Village Council and the rural tourism specialized travel agency Babaground. This product connects major tourist attractions, local culture, and rural experience and recreation villages. In the first year of the project, it attracted 667 tourists, achieving meaningful results.
Based on the achievements of the first year, Geochang-gun secured a total budget of 200 million KRW for the second year of the project, which will run until 2025. The county plans to expand the infrastructure of experience and recreation villages centered around major tourist sites, supplement various experience programs, and develop and operate rural tourism products that can meet the diverse demands of domestic travelers.
County Governor Gu In-mo stated, "The Rural Creatour Project was a great opportunity to promote Geochang," and added, "Geochang-gun has set a goal to attract 1 million living population this year to revitalize the local economy and address the population decline issue. To this end, the county plans to closely link its nine representative tourist sites ('Geochang Haguna! Gugeonggase!') with the Rural Creatour Project."
