Goldberg: "The ROK-US Alliance is Ironclad"
Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol repeatedly met with the U.S. Ambassador to Korea at three-day intervals following the emergency martial law situation to reaffirm the commitment to the South Korea-U.S. alliance.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 9th, Minister Cho met with Ambassador Philip Goldberg the previous evening. The Ministry stated, "Minister Cho emphasized our government's firm determination to overcome the current difficult situation based on Korea's resilience in liberal democracy and the firmly sustained rule of law," adding, "Both sides agreed to work together to ensure that the South Korea-U.S. alliance remains unwaveringly maintained and strengthened."

Ambassador Goldberg also posted on his SNS after the meeting, stating, "I discussed the current situation in Korea with Minister Cho Tae-yeol, and we agreed that the South Korea-U.S. alliance is ironclad."
Minister Cho is believed to have explained the impeachment crisis of President Yoon Seok-yeol following the martial law situation and shared the view that domestic political circumstances should not affect South Korea-U.S. relations.
Minister Cho also met with Ambassador Goldberg on the 5th to explain the situation after the announcement of martial law. At that time, both sides agreed on the need to unwaveringly maintain Korea's democracy, the strong South Korea-U.S. alliance, and the U.S.'s ironclad defense commitments, and pledged to cooperate closely to that end.
