Police Agency Orders Joint Investigation of Cases
Caution Needed When Receiving Large Orders
Recently, there have been consecutive cases of "no-shows" where individuals impersonating military officers placed large group orders at restaurants and then cut off contact, prompting the police to launch a joint investigation.
According to the National Police Agency's Criminal Investigation Headquarters on the 3rd, a total of 76 cases nationwide have been confirmed where large or group orders were placed, or payments were made under the pretense of proxy purchases of combat rations or food supplies, after which the perpetrators disappeared. The largest amount of damage recorded was 25.2 million won.
The National Police Agency designated the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency's Criminal Mobile Unit as the dedicated investigation office the day before and ordered the consolidation of cases nationwide. The provincial police agencies where no-show cases have been reported include 12 locations: Busan, Incheon, Ulsan, Gyeonggi Nambu, Gyeonggi Bukbu, Gangwon, Chungbuk, Chungnam, Jeonbuk, Jeonnam, Gyeongbuk, and Gyeongnam.
A police official said, “We urge small business owners to exercise special caution when accepting large orders by setting reservation deposits and verifying official phone numbers.”
