The city's public libraries have set up book exhibition corners where visitors can get an overview of the author's major works, and are hosting various events such as special lectures analyzing Han Kang's representative books, short story readings, reading discussions, and transcription experiences.
Since Han Kang's Nobel Prize in Literature win on October 10, the popularity of the author's works has surged, with books selling out in the market. This event was organized to provide citizens with an opportunity to access the author's works more easily and gain a deeper understanding of them.
Detailed information about the events can be found on the city's library portal or the websites of individual public libraries.
Following the Nobel Prize win, the city is responding swiftly to the sharp increase in demand for Han Kang's books through public libraries. They are purchasing additional copies of major works from local bookstores to provide prompt book lending services, while also striving to revitalize the local economy and sustain the growing reading enthusiasm.
Kim Gwi-ok, Director of the Youth Industry-Academia Division of the city, stated, “We hope that the reading craze sparked by Han Kang will spread through the 53 public libraries in the city, and we will actively support citizens' reading activities by operating high-quality reading culture programs.” She added, “On Culture Day every month, we encourage everyone to visit their nearest public library to view the exhibition of Han Kang's books and enjoy the benefits of 'Double Book Lending Day'.”
