Starfield "On-site Investigation Conducted at All Stores"
Legal Actions Proceeding Including Requests for Video Removal
Strong Response Planned Against Future Malicious Rumor Spreading
Amid the spread of posts online claiming that hidden camera footage filmed in the women's restroom at the Starfield shopping complex is being shared, Starfield has denied the claims. The company also stated that it will take a strong stance against the distribution of illegal filming videos impersonating Starfield.
On the 11th, multiple online communities posted under the title "Starfield women's restroom" that illegal filming materials were being distributed on a certain site. In particular, one illegal filming video reached 73,000 views. The post quickly spread online, and at one point, "Starfield" appeared in the real-time search terms on X (formerly Twitter), sparking controversy.
As anxiety over these suspicions grew, Shinsegae Property released a statement on Starfield's official social media channels on the same day, saying, "An illegal filming video with a title impersonating Starfield has been distributed online," and "Immediately after recognizing this fact, we conducted an on-site investigation targeting all Starfield and Starfield City stores."
They continued, "As a result of the investigation, we confirmed that the restroom facilities (toilet lever, handles, toilet paper holder, types of tissue, etc.) in the distributed illegal filming video do not match any restroom facilities in all Starfield stores."
They added, "Through the Korea Communications Standards Commission, we reported the site where the illegal filming video was posted for violations of the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes and Defamation, and requested the removal of the video, proceeding with legal measures," and "We also requested the deletion of the posts from online cafe and community administrators who distributed the related posts."
They further stated, "We plan to take a strong legal stance against illegal acts such as defamation and the spread of malicious rumors in the future."
Additionally, they said, "Starfield prioritizes customer safety and regularly inspects facilities, thoroughly checking for illegal filming devices using equipment such as video detection devices, radio wave detectors, and lens detectors," and "We will continue to conduct more thorough management and inspections to ensure the safety of our customers."
