Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) is supporting the development of arts and sports fields such as middle and high school athletic teams within the district by implementing a school branding project. The purpose is to establish a foundation for nurturing prestigious local schools by backing their representative specialized projects.
Launched last year, the school branding project invests a total annual budget of 100 million KRW to support each school with expenses such as professional instructor fees, training camp costs, various competition activity fees, and educational equipment purchases.
In this year’s school branding project, last month, 10 schools were selected to receive support until February next year, including Baemoon Middle School (athletics team development), Osan Middle School (shooting team branding), Yonggang Middle School (student soccer player talent development), Yongsan Middle School (athletic team support), Baemoon High School (athletics team development), Boseong Girls’ High School (art talent cultivation), Seoul Digital Tech High School (preparing designers in new industries), Sunrin Internet High School (baseball team operation), Osan High School (shooting team development), and Yongsan High School (student athlete position management capability enhancement).
Each school receives support ranging from a minimum of 9 million KRW to a maximum of 11 million KRW to help arts and sports specialty students receive professional education in a high-quality learning environment. The support was finalized after each school applied and passed the review by the Yongsan-gu Education Expense Subsidy Committee.
The participating schools have contributed to widely promoting the reputation of Yongsan-gu schools by achieving excellent results in various national competitions, such as the runner-up position at the 77th Golden Lion National High School Baseball Tournament (Sunrin Internet High School) and winning the boys’ 50m team event at the 39th Chairman’s National Shooting Competition (Osan High School).
In particular, Baemoon High School’s athletics team achieved its 12th consecutive victory in the boys’ division at the 40th Kolon Section Marathon held in Gyeongju on the 30th of last month, a competition known as the most prestigious middle and high school athletics event in Korea. Additionally, at the 53rd Spring National Middle and High School Athletics Competition held from the 17th to 21st in Yecheon, Gyeongbuk, three Baemoon High School athletes took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively in the boys’ 5000m event.
In response, on the 22nd, Yongsan District Mayor Park Hee-young invited Baemoon High School’s athletics team players, their coach, and the principal and vice principal to the mayor’s office to offer congratulations and encouragement. At this meeting, Mayor Park also listened to the difficulties faced by the athletics team during training and the efforts made by the student athletes.
Mayor Park stated, “I am proud of the athletes who are achieving good results despite imperfect conditions,” and added, “Going forward, the district will actively discover educational resources through educational support projects so that all students in Yongsan-gu can receive education in a good environment.”
Meanwhile, besides the school branding project, the district is strengthening the competitiveness of public education in the area by promoting projects such as school environment improvement, school education informatization, customized educational programs for each school, and high school academic achievement enhancement programs.
