"Strengthen Local Diplomatic Networks Faithfully"
"Please Support Corporate Overseas Expansion and Export Promotion"
Prime Minister Han Duck-soo emphasized on the 23rd that "we are currently facing a 'global complex crisis,'" and that heads of overseas diplomatic missions must perceive the complex crisis phenomena more sensitively and accurately than anyone else.
At a luncheon meeting with heads of overseas diplomatic missions held at Lotte Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, Prime Minister Han said, "Security and the economy, as well as advanced technology, health, environment, and human rights, are intertwined in ongoing crises around the world."
He pointed out the escalating Middle East instability due to deepening US-China conflicts and Israel-Iran armed clashes, as well as North Korea's nuclear and missile development, stating that "these seriously threaten peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and worldwide."
He continued, "The 'rules-based international order' and principles that have driven global economic growth are also being shaken," emphasizing that "nationalism and protectionism are expanding, and in reaction to the rapidly advancing globalization trend, tendencies toward regionalization and bloc formation are also becoming prominent."
Prime Minister Han stated that the role of heads of overseas diplomatic missions, as field commanders, is more important than ever in responding to this global complex crisis.
He said, "I understand that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters is making efforts to strengthen the information-gathering capabilities of missions and to manage this more systematically," adding, "by efficiently improving the communication system between overseas missions and the Ministry headquarters, I hope it will become a solid foundation enabling the government to proactively respond to the global complex crisis."
He further explained, "We must further strengthen the missions' local networks," and "solidify alliances and cooperation not only with friendly countries but also with nations worldwide, strategically promote the significantly increased ODA, and enhance the foundational capacity to respond to the global complex crisis."
In particular, Prime Minister Han reiterated, "As global interest in our country rises due to the spread of Hallyu and other factors, we must more accurately communicate our foreign policy and domestic situation," emphasizing that "for this purpose, the local networks built around the heads of missions are more crucial than ever."
Additionally, Prime Minister Han urged greater efforts to facilitate the efficient overseas expansion and export promotion of Korean companies, adding, "Even now, the driving force of our economic growth remains exports."
