The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 23rd that the '2024 Korea Science Festival' will be held for four days from the 25th to the 28th at Daejeon Expo Citizen Plaza and the Expo Science Park area.
This year's science festival, under the theme 'The World's Largest Laboratory,' is designed as five spaces where visitors can experience and engage with various science and technology as if they were scientists: ▲ 'Science Talk Talk,' communicating with science, ▲ 'Science Laboratory,' fostering curiosity and imagination, ▲ 'Science Museum,' showcasing the future of science and technology, ▲ 'Science Lounge,' for healing and recharging, and ▲ 'Science Theme Park,' full of entertainment.
In particular, this science festival is held together with the '5th Korea Science and Technology Exhibition,' which displays the latest research and development achievements, offering more diverse sights and attractions than before.
A total of about 420 science culture programs will be held throughout the festival period, ranging from lectures by star scientists such as Professor Jeong Jae-seung and Professor Beom-jun, and YouTuber '1 Minute Science,' to various science performances including science magic concerts and science musicals, as well as diverse experiential programs like science-themed escape rooms and experiencing the moon's gravity.
Additionally, visitors can view research and development achievements in 12 national strategic technology fields such as quantum computers and ultra-small gene scissors, as well as exhibits from CES 2024, allowing direct access to cutting-edge technologies and R&D results that are usually difficult to encounter. Various programs such as the Model Panda Flashmob Special Exhibition, Science Gallery, Science Cafe, Science Makerland, book talks, and science music talks will also be operated.
The opening ceremony, held at 7 p.m. on the 25th at the main stage of Expo Citizen Plaza, will be hosted by Dr. Jang Dong-seon, a renowned neuroscientist, and will feature science performances along with congratulatory performances by singer Kim Na-young, rapper 'Gwang-eo,' and Lee Seok-hoon, a member of 'SG Wannabe' and solo singer.
In addition to the science festival venue, various side programs will be held throughout the event period across downtown Daejeon, including the New Researchers Exchange Meeting of Research Institutes, Science Harmony Yard, generative AI content experiences, and open science tours of research institutes in the Daedeok Innopolis.
Minister Lee Jong-ho of the Ministry of Science and ICT stated, "I hope this festival will be a good opportunity for children to develop interest and curiosity in science and grow into excellent scientists of the future."
