Pledging 'Professionalism, Sense of Duty, and Respect for Life' Required as a Pharmacist
The College of Pharmacy at Mokpo National University (President Song Ha-cheol) announced on the 11th that it held the ‘2023 4th White Coat Ceremony’ at 1 p.m. on the 7th in the Cheonggang Academia Hall of the Mokpo National University 70th Anniversary Memorial Hall.
About 120 people attended the event, including Mokpo National University President Song Ha-cheol, Dean of the College of Pharmacy Lee Eun-young, Jeollanam-do Pharmaceutical Association President Jo Gi-seok and General Director Choi Kyung-bae, Mokpo City Pharmaceutical Association President Jeong Seung-won and General Director Kim Sang-beom, faculty and staff of the Department of Pharmacy at Mokpo National University, enrolled students, and parents, celebrating the first step of prospective pharmacists.

The event proceeded in the order of the white coat donning ceremony, the Dioscorides Oath, presentation of bouquets and badges from juniors, and commemorative photos. The 35 fifth-year students of the College of Pharmacy at Mokpo National University pledged to dedicate their lives to humanity as pharmacy professionals by embodying the expertise, sense of mission, and respect for life required of pharmacists before undertaking clinical practice at hospitals, pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, and research institutes.
President Song Ha-cheol said, “This occasion is a very meaningful moment for prospective pharmacists who pledge through the Dioscorides Oath to do their best to practice love and service for the welfare and happiness of humanity with their knowledge and abilities as pharmacy professionals. The pharmacy students at Mokpo National University are now at the starting point of taking their first step to becoming good pharmacists, so I hope they remember this moment and responsibly perform their roles excellently as intern pharmacists.”
Dean Lee Eun-young of the College of Pharmacy urged, “Please strictly follow the regulations during the internship period, cooperate well with other members, keep in mind that you are pharmacy experts, and maintain a dignified and courteous attitude along with a continuous willingness to learn.”
