In front of the National Assembly Building, more than 120,000 teachers from across the country gathered to urge the revision of the Child Welfare Act to protect teachers' rights.
On the 28th, a large-scale rally led by the 'National Teachers' Collective' was held on the six-lane bidirectional road and sidewalks along Uisadang-daero in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. According to the organizers' estimate, over 120,000 teachers participated wearing black clothing.
They stated, "Article 17, Clause 5 of the Child Welfare Act, which prohibits emotional abuse, has become a sharp blade of accusations and lawsuits against teachers trying to conduct educational activities," and demanded, "Stop turning teachers' guidance on students' behavior into emotional abuse."
They also called for the establishment of a standardized complaint handling system to prevent malicious complaints and the transfer of authority for investigating and handling school violence to the relevant authorities.
