It has been identified that there are 3,340 student voters (based on data extracted from the Education Administration Information System as of the 8th) for the by-election to be held in Ulsan on April 5.
The final number of student voters will be confirmed 12 days before the election day, and the number is expected to be higher if out-of-school youth are included.
The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 9th that student voters aged 18 who wish to participate in voting on the by-election day can do so with the permission of the school principal for outings or early leave, and if they submit a voting confirmation certificate, their attendance will be recognized.
However, considering that the election day falls on a weekday and the protection of learning rights, it plans to encourage student voters to vote after school hours or during the early voting period on Saturday, April 1.
Due to the revision of the Public Official Election Act, only students born before April 6, 2005 (aged 18 or older) will be granted voting rights in the by-election held on April 5.
In Ulsan, elections for the Superintendent of Education and the Nam-gu Council Member (District Na - Okdong, Sinjeong 4-dong) will be held.
Regarding the Ulsan local by-election, the city education office conducted training last month at Jiphyeonsil for high school and special school teachers in charge of election education.
The training was conducted by Moon Eun-young, a senior instructor from the Central Election Commission Election Training Institute, targeting about 60 high school and special school teachers under the theme "Election Laws That Students and Teachers Must Know."
Instructor Moon said, “I understand that it is practically very difficult for teachers, who must maintain political neutrality, to guide students who have been granted voting rights and the right to join political parties. Nevertheless, schools are the foundation for civic education, and the interest and efforts of teachers can help our students grow into participating citizens.”
