[Asia Economy Reporter Han Ye-ju] The Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) Small and Medium Business Cooperation Center’s FKI Middle-aged and Senior Job Hope Center announced on the 29th that it held a labor law special lecture for middle-aged and senior job seekers and small business owners in Yeongdeungpo district in collaboration with the Seoul Southern Employment and Labor Office.

The event was organized to provide practical essential information on the Labor Standards Act and employment contracts, which are often overlooked, through case-based learning, aiming to help the vulnerable middle-aged and senior job seekers protect their rights as workers and support long-term employment. About 120 middle-aged and senior job seekers participated in the event.

Mr. Kim (56), a middle-aged participant in the special lecture, said, "I hoped to find a full-time reemployment job but faced difficulties, so I was looking into one-time or part-time jobs. This lecture will be very helpful when preparing employment contracts during job hunting."

Park Hyun-beom, a certified labor attorney from Korea Labor Law Firm who served as the lecturer, said, "Workers themselves are becoming more interested in their rights. Although the law may seem difficult, knowing it and responding appropriately can be very helpful in the workplace."

After the lecture, two labor inspectors from the Seoul Southern Employment and Labor Office provided on-site one-on-one customized labor consultations and counseling to job seekers, resolving various labor-related questions.

Park Cheol-han, director of the FKI Small and Medium Business Cooperation Center, said, "If middle-aged and senior job seekers gain knowledge about the Labor Standards Act through this event and respond wisely when signing employment contracts, it will greatly help increase job satisfaction and employment retention in the future. We also plan to hold a special lecture on practical labor management from hiring to retirement for small business owners and HR managers in Yeongdeungpo district on the 12th of next month."

Meanwhile, the FKI Middle-aged and Senior Job Hope Center provided reemployment services to 4,552 job seekers aged 40 and above this year and successfully placed 1,639 of them. The center offers various free employment support services year-round, including career transition schools, re-advancement programs and special lectures, job counseling, and job placement for middle-aged and senior job seekers and retirees (or those planning to retire).
