On the 25th, the Ulsan District Court Criminal Division 6 (Judge Lee Hyun-il) announced that A, who was tried on charges of infant abandonment, was sentenced to six months in prison with one year of probation.
A is accused of leaving her newborn baby along with a note inside a baby box at a church in Seoul one night in July 2019 and then leaving the scene.
The trial revealed that A committed the crime because she found it difficult to raise the child due to family circumstances and financial difficulties.
The court stated, "A bears heavy responsibility for abandoning the baby, which endangered the child's life and body," but added, "However, considering that the place where the baby was abandoned was a location where help could be received and that the baby was rescued in a short time," explaining the reasons for the sentencing.
