Gwangjin-gu Plans to Collaborate with Honorary Social Welfare Officials, Licensed Realtors, Convenience Store Owners, and Gas Meter Readers to Identify Welfare Blind Spots... Home Visits and Welfare Consultations Conducted for 1,567 Surveyed Households in the Welfare Blind Spot System... Task Force Formed to Conduct a Full Survey of 13,882 Middle-Aged Single-Person Households at Risk of Solitary Death
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is joining forces with residents, organizations, and businesses to intensively focus on identifying welfare blind spots and providing tailored support management.
To prevent tragic incidents like the Suwon three mothers case, Gwangjin-gu is promoting the ‘Strengthening the Welfare Blind Spot Discovery System’ to actively identify households at risk in welfare blind spots and provide customized support management for the beneficiaries.
First, in August, home visits, welfare check-ins, and counseling were intensively conducted for 1,567 households identified by the welfare blind spot discovery system to connect and support tailored public and private welfare services, with ongoing follow-up management, focused management projects, and case management projects being implemented.
Additionally, the district’s discovery task force is conducting a full survey of 13,882 middle-aged single-person households aged 50 to 64 who are at risk of solitary death, and plans to provide ▲single-person household welfare check-in services ▲solitary death prevention smart plugs ▲Seoul Salpini app, conducting regular monitoring.
In particular, the district is working closely with local residents, organizations, and businesses to build a dense human safety network in the neighborhood.
First, ‘Honorary Social Welfare Officers’ and ‘Our Neighborhood Caregivers,’ composed of community leaders such as tongjang welfare helpers and members of the local social security council who know the local situation best, are being actively deployed to discover welfare blind spots.
Along with this, the district has partnered with the ‘Korea Association of Realtors’ to enable the discovery and reporting of at-risk households during real estate brokerage and contract processes.
Furthermore, an agreement is being pursued with ‘Yesco’ so that gas meter readers can identify and report at-risk households during home visits, and the district is also coordinating with the ‘Convenience Store Association’ to immediately report suspected at-risk households found during business operations, ensuring that no resident in crisis is overlooked by strengthening the cooperation system throughout the area.
This Chuseok holiday, the district and 15 dong community centers’ welfare check-in supervisors will conduct welfare check-ins for 2,684 single-person households, confirming the status of welfare check-in calls for about 150 people daily, and visiting residents who fail to respond to calls more than twice, thoroughly preventing solitary deaths.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We will work closely with residents, organizations, and businesses to actively identify hidden at-risk households and ensure perfect follow-up management. We will continue to do our best to create a mutually prosperous welfare city where all residents live well together.”
