[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] 'Master of Administration' former Prime Minister Go Geon (former Mayor of Seoul) has declared his support for Lee Chang-hak, a candidate in the Seoul Jung-gu District Chief primary election.
Lee Chang-hak, the People Power Party primary candidate for Jung-gu District Chief, met with former Prime Minister Go Geon on April 26, 2022. At this meeting, former Prime Minister Go expressed his support and encouragement for Lee, urging him to utilize the experience and expertise he has accumulated in Seoul City to properly develop Jung-gu.
The reason former Prime Minister Go supports Lee is known to be due to their personal connection.
Lee served as a personal secretary to former Mayor Go Geon during his second elected term as Seoul Mayor from 1999 to 2002 for over three years, and also as a secretary to the Prime Minister and Acting President for about one year, assisting him closely for over four years.
Lee said, "Being able to learn from 'Master of Administration' Mayor and Prime Minister Go Geon’s city and national governance while serving as a section chief and secretary was a great learning opportunity and a tremendous fortune for my growth as an administrative official."
He added, "I have always tried to keep close to my heart former Prime Minister Go Geon’s administrative philosophy and policies that always put the people first, his approach to problems, especially the principles of Jiseonggammin (至誠感民), meaning sincere devotion to move the people, and Jijari-ryeom (知者利廉), emphasizing integrity for the wise."
After graduating from Seoul National University’s Department of Political Science, Lee passed both the Administrative and Foreign Service exams. Although he is a 30-year veteran administrative official in Seoul City, Lee Chang-hak is a political newcomer. Whether he will secure the nomination in the three-way People Power Party primary for Jung-gu District Chief has become a focal point in Jung-gu local politics.
