LG Uplus Launches Post Office Exclusive Smartphone and Expands 9 Types of Budget Phone Plans

LG Uplus Launches Post Office Exclusive Smartphone and Expands 9 Types of Budget Phone Plans The model is introducing a smartphone exclusively for the post office.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] LG Uplus announced on the 31st that it will launch a post office-exclusive smartphone on the 1st of next month in collaboration with the Korea Post, and will also add budget phone plans using the U+ network. This is part of a cooperative effort to expand win-win relationships with small and medium-sized budget phone operators and to enhance convenience for budget phone users.

The post office-exclusive smartphone is Samsung Electronics' practical model, the ‘Galaxy A32’, equipped with four post office-related apps and the ‘Trot Music 600’ application, which provides hit songs from the 70s and 80s. The four pre-installed apps are ‘Post Office’, ‘Post Office Shopping’, ‘Post Office Smart Banking’, and ‘Post Office Insurance’, consisting of apps frequently used by post office customers. The exclusive smartphone can be purchased not only at offline post office counters but also through the internet post office and apps.

Additionally, LG Uplus has expanded partnerships with post office budget phone operators. Customers can now subscribe to budget phones from four additional companies (Keunsaram, Unicoms, Enext Telecom, and Eyes Mobile) in addition to the existing three (KCTV Mobile, InscoBee, and YL Land). With the addition of nine plans including ‘Eyes Ujeong’, which offers 300 voice minutes and 5GB data for 8,500 KRW per month, customers have a wider range of choices.

To commemorate the launch of the exclusive smartphone and the expansion of plans, LG Uplus is running a ‘Post Office Plan Activation Promotion’. Throughout next month, all customers who subscribe to U+ budget phone plans at the post office will receive a Starbucks coffee coupon.

Furthermore, 1,000 customers who sign up for the ‘Post Office Smart Banking’ app will receive a 10,000 KRW smart banking event cash and a Starbucks coffee coupon separately. The event cash can be converted into cash. Customers who purchase the post office-exclusive phone and participate in the promotion will receive an additional 10,000 KRW event cash, totaling 20,000 KRW worth of cash.

Previously, LG Uplus opened a dedicated budget phone consultation zone within the post office to increase customer understanding of budget phones and promote offline sales for small and medium-sized operators. Earlier this year, it opened ‘Budget Phone+’, a dedicated consulting store for budget phones, at Homeplus Seoul Hapjeong branch, continuously striving for cooperation with small and medium-sized operators. At Budget Phone+, more than 300 USIM plans are activated monthly, attracting significant customer interest.

Going forward, LG Uplus plans to expand the sales channels for the shared budget phone USIM ‘One Chip’ to enhance convenience for budget phone users. The One Chip, which can be purchased at nationwide Emart24 convenience stores and Budget Phone+ stores, will also be available at the post office online shopping mall and post office counters. Additionally, the post office-exclusive phone models will be increased.
