3-Month Rent Reduction for Academic Building Rental Shops and Students
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Pohang City announced on the 2nd that the Pohang Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Mayor Lee Kang-deok) held a board meeting and decided to partially reduce the rent of Pohang Dormitory, which serves as accommodation for university students in the Seoul metropolitan area.
The Pohang Scholarship Foundation held its second board meeting of the year on the 1st and decided to further reduce part of the monthly rent (usage fee) for three months, following the first reduction in May, to alleviate the economic burden on dormitory rental stores and residents who are struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
At the meeting, measures to address the decrease in interest income due to the advent of the 'zero interest rate' era and partial amendments to the operating regulations were discussed. This year, the Pohang Scholarship Foundation selected 486 university and sports talent scholarship recipients and awarded scholarships totaling 667 million KRW, and high school scholarship recipients will be selected in December.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok expressed his gratitude, saying, "I thank everyone at the Pohang Scholarship Foundation who always strives for local talents despite the difficulties caused by COVID-19," and emphasized, "We will continue to support outstanding youth in the region so they can realize their dreams."
Meanwhile, the Pohang Scholarship Foundation purchased a building in Jegi-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, in January 2014, remodeled it, and opened the 'Jaegyeong Pohang Dormitory,' a seven-story building with one basement floor, in November of the same year. This facility supports about 150 local university students from the metropolitan area every year, allowing them to focus on their studies in a comfortable academic environment without economic burden.
