[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] What happened to the father who retaliated by assaulting a peer friend who hit his 7-year-old son?
The father who assaulted the child who hit his son using a mobile phone was sentenced to 6 months in prison with a suspended sentence.
The Ulsan District Court Criminal Division 10 (Judge Kim Kyung-rok) sentenced Mr. A, in his 40s, who was indicted for violating the Child Welfare Act, to 6 months in prison with a 1-year suspended sentence on the 26th. He was also ordered to attend 40 hours of lectures on preventing recidivism in child abuse.
In July, Mr. A heard his son sobbing, saying, "Another child made me lie face down and hit me at the playground," and called the mother of B, the child who hit his son, to protest.
When he could not reach her, Mr. A went straight to the playground, made B lie face down, and asked why he hit his son, but B treated it lightly, saying he had apologized to his son.
Angered, Mr. A hit B once with his mobile phone and made his son hit B in the same way.
Later, Mr. A was reported by B's family for violating the Child Welfare Act.
The court stated, "Regardless of the circumstances, it is necessary to strictly punish adults who commit violence against children."
However, considering that the crime was committed impulsively after hearing that his son was hit, the court announced a suspended sentence.
