Songpa-gu Hosts Winter Camp for Youth... Directly Planning Trips to Jeonju and Gunsan
On the 6th, at Jamsil Youth Center, participating youths gathered in groups to plan a trip during the 'Dream High' winter camp.
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) operated the winter camp ‘Youth Vision Classroom Dream High’ to support the healthy growth of youth from vulnerable households.
‘Youth Vision Classroom Dream High’ is a program where youth from vulnerable households experience a sense of achievement, confidence, and healthy peer relationships through various educational and field activities.
It is promoted in connection with Jamsil Youth Center with support from the Community Chest of Korea.
The district conducts the ‘Youth Vision Classroom’ to help the inner growth of youth from vulnerable households, considering that many of them suffer from emotional instability and school maladjustment due to family problems and economic difficulties. Last year, a summer camp was held to provide various career exploration opportunities such as barista and drone pilot.
This winter camp was held for four days from the 6th to the 9th, targeting 30 middle and high school students from vulnerable households. The program was designed so that the youth could choose and carry out each process themselves, from travel planning to field experience, to feel a sense of self-directed achievement.
On the 6th and 7th, participants planned the ‘Jeonju~Gunsan trip’ themselves with youth leaders from Jamsil Youth Center and received safety and etiquette education. Then, on the 8th and 9th, a cultural experience camp was held visiting famous sites such as Jeonju Hanok Village and Gunsan Modern History Street according to the planned schedule.
The participating youth responded positively to the camp, saying, “Planning the trip ourselves and going on the trip with peers gave me confidence,” and “Due to economic conditions, I couldn’t attend academies or other activities during vacation, but at the camp, I made friends and experienced various cultures, which was meaningful.”
On the 7th, the district was selected as an executing agency for the ‘Local Government Youth Safety Net Team Leading Project and High-Risk Youth Customized Program’ promoted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
Accordingly, this year, the district plans to promote outreach campaigns for high-risk youth, the Songpa-gu Youth Safety Net intensive support program, and intensive counseling programs by specialized counselors for high-risk youth.
Mayor Park Seong-su said, “The educational goal of Songpa-gu is to help youth develop various talents without exclusion through our own education model ‘Songpa SSEM.’ We will continue to actively support youth from vulnerable households with customized educational services so that they do not give up on their dreams and hopes.”
