K-pop duo TVXQ has proven their solid popularity in Japan by topping Oricon's prestigious weekly chart with their 35th Japanese single.
According to Oricon's official website on Tuesday, TVXQ!'s latest single "Android" scored the No. 1 spot on Oricon's weekly singles chart after moving 152,000 copies since going on sale on July 11.
Making it their 11th single to top the weekly singles chart, TVXQ!'s "Android" entered the Oricon's daily singles chart at first place and maintained its position for six straight days.
Additionally, TVXQ! has also moved over a record number of 3.1 million copies of their singles released to date, making them one of handful of artists that have made such an accomplishment.
The duo's album sales figure broke the records set by music legends The Carpenters, who have moved a little over 3 million singles so far.
The fast achievement of "Android" was predictable even before the release as it had been topping several preorder charts in Japan including Tower Records, Amazon Japan and Tsutaya.
The duo's new single went on sale in three editions and includes the title track of the same name and "Blink," a fast tempo track with strong beats.
Composed of Max Changmin and U-Know Yunho, TVXQ! made a transition from five-member group to a two-member unit before releasing the fifth full-length album, “Keep Your Head Down” in 2011.
In the meantime, TVXQ! will take part at a-nation's annual music fest, which is set to take place at the Ajinomoto Stadium in Tokyo on August 25 and 26.
The boys will share the stage with other top K-pop artists such as Big Bang, Super Junior, 2NE1 and U-Kiss.
