KOSDAQ Also Strong...Trading at 1,167.37
The KOSPI index has surpassed 6,000 points for the first time ever. Samsung Electronics, dubbed the "200,000-won Electronics," and SK Hynix, dubbed the "1,000,000-won Hynix," also started the day on an upward trend.
The KOSPI index surpassed the 6,000 level for the first time ever in early trading on the 25th, with domestic market indices displayed at the Korea Exchange in Yeouido, Seoul. As of 9:08 a.m. on the 25th, the KOSPI was trading at 6,017.36, up 47.72 points (0.80%) from the previous day.
By investor type, individual investors were net buyers of 1,267.109 billion won, driving the gains. Foreign investors and institutional investors were net sellers of 735.595 billion won and 537.163 billion won, respectively.
Most sectors were strong. The construction sector rose 3.18%, while transport equipment and components (+1.82%), electricity and gas (+1.62%), securities (+1.21%), and electrical and electronics (+0.80%) also gained. In contrast, some sectors such as chemicals (-0.75%), telecommunications (-0.67%), and pharmaceuticals (-0.73%) were weak.
Among large-cap stocks by market capitalization, performance was mixed. Samsung Electronics was trading at 202,500 won, up 2,500 won (1.2%) from the previous day, and SK Hynix was trading at 1,009,000 won, up 4,000 won (0.4%) from the previous day, maintaining their respective "200,000-won Electronics" and "1,000,000-won Hynix" titles. Kia (+7.7%), Hyundai Motor (+4.5%), Samsung Electro-Mechanics (+1.9%), Korea Electric Power Corporation (+1.5%), and Korea Zinc (+1.3%) were also strong. However, Hanwha Aerospace (-1.7%), Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance (-1.6%), Shinhan Financial Group (-1.2%), and Celltrion (-1.1%) were slightly weaker.
The KOSDAQ also rose 2.37 points (0.20%) from the previous day to 1,167.37.
By investor type, individual investors were net buyers of 242.615 billion won, while foreign investors and institutions were net sellers of 198.695 billion won and 28.227 billion won, respectively.
Sector performance on the KOSDAQ was mixed. Transport equipment and components (+1.69%), construction (+1.37%), and electrical and electronics (+0.56%) showed modest gains compared to the previous day, while medical and precision instruments (-2.16%), transport and storage (-0.56%), and pharmaceuticals (-0.44%) were weak.
Among large-cap KOSDAQ stocks, performance was also mixed. Ecopro was trading at 170,900 won, up 0.5% from the previous day, and Hyundai Movex (+6.5%), Robotis (+4.0%), and Peptron (+2.2%) were also strong. In contrast, Classys (-11.2%), Alteogen (-1.3%), and Ecopro BM (-0.4%) were on a downward trend.
Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won-dollar exchange rate opened at 1,441.6 won, down 0.9 won from the previous trading day.
