KOSPI Closes at All-Time High... KOSDAQ Also Rises

Institutional Net Buying
Stemming the Net Selling Trend by Foreigners and Individuals

The KOSPI closed at 5,960 on a closing-price basis, marking an all-time high. The KOSDAQ index also finished higher.


On the 24th, the KOSPI ended trading at 5,969.64, up 123.55 points (2.11%) from the previous day. This is a record high. The trading volume was provisionally tallied at 1,589.55 million shares, with a trading value of 30.732476 trillion won.


By investor type, institutions recorded a net purchase of 2.508696 trillion won, while foreigners and individual investors posted net sales of 262.548 billion won and 2.34587 trillion won, respectively.


By sector, metals (4.59%), electrical and electronics (4.19%), manufacturing (3.07%), and chemicals (2.62%) advanced. In contrast, financial-related stocks such as insurance (-3.5%), securities (-2.61%), and finance (-0.66%) declined.


Most of the large-cap stocks by market capitalization rose. SK Square jumped 6.9% from the previous session, posting the largest gain, followed by SK Hynix (5.5%), LG Energy Solution (4%), Samsung Electronics (3.6%), and Celltrion (2.2%), which also closed higher. Samsung Life Insurance (-2.8%) and Hanwha Ocean (-2.7%) declined.

The KOSDAQ closed at 1,165.0, up 13.01 points (1.13%) from the previous day. The trading volume was provisionally tallied at 1,313.621 million shares, with a trading value of 13.282888 trillion won.


By investor type, foreigners and institutions recorded net sales of 88.024 billion won and 164.032 billion won, respectively, while individual investors posted a net purchase of 299.199 billion won.


Most of the large-cap stocks by market capitalization on the KOSDAQ also rose, including EO Technics (4.7%), Rainbow Robotics (4.6%), Wonik IPS (2%), EcoPro BM (1.6%), and Voronoi (1.4%). In contrast, Caregen (-6.1%) and Classys (-1.7%) ended the session weaker.


Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won-dollar exchange rate closed at 1,442.5 won, up 2.5 won from the previous day.
