Hamyang County in South Gyeongsang Province announced that, in connection with the wildfire that broke out at around 9:14 p.m. on February 21 in the Changwon-ri area of Macheon-myeon, it swiftly operated a shelter for residents and implemented environmental improvement measures to ensure the safety and convenience of the evacuees.

In line with the outbreak and progress of the wildfire, the county promptly evacuated 164 residents from four villages and launched an emergency response by setting up a temporary shelter at the Yurim-myeon Eoullim Gymnasium, where it provided meals and daily necessities.

On February 22, Governor Park Wansu of South Gyeongsang Province visited the shelter to inspect its operation and console the residents. During the visit, he requested that the safety and living conditions of the evacuees be carefully attended to, noting among other things that the floor mats in the shelter were somewhat thin and could cause inconvenience for residents.

In response, Hamyang County immediately began improvement measures and requested emergency support from Sancheong County, which had relevant supplies on hand based on last year’s wildfire response experience. On the afternoon of February 23, the county received additional floor mats and relief supplies from Sancheong County and quickly improved the shelter environment.

An official from Hamyang County stated, "Even in a disaster situation, we acted swiftly with the safety and living conditions of residents as our top priority," adding, "We are grateful to Sancheong County for its prompt cooperation, and we will continue to work closely with neighboring local governments to minimize inconvenience for residents."
