Kwon Sunki, the single candidate of the Coalition to Unite Conservative and Centrist Candidates for the Gyeongnam Superintendent of Education, held a press conference in the briefing room of the Gyeongnam Office of Education on the 23rd and announced his pledge on character education centered on body, benevolence, and wisdom.
Pre-candidate Kwon said, "Gyeongnam education is facing serious academic decline, weakening of teachers' authority, deterioration of students' right to learn, widening educational gaps, the crisis of extinction in education in farming, mountain, and fishing villages, administrative inefficiency, malicious civil complaints, conflicts with local governments, and weakening fiscal soundness," adding, "Among these, the crisis in character education is an issue that affects not only Gyeongnam but our entire society and educational field."
He continued, "In public opinion polls on what tasks Gyeongnam education must solve, character education overwhelmingly ranked first," and declared, "In response, I pledge to usher in an era of character education that integrates physical strength, moral character, and intellect, centered on body, benevolence, and wisdom."

To this end, he said, "Through an 'Arts & Sports Day,' we will help each and every student discover their own talents and accumulate experiences of success," explaining that "this means designating specific days twice a month in the school curriculum to run immersion programs in which students participate in activities of their choice in culture, arts, or sports."
He also pledged, "We will revitalize the Office of Education's student volunteer platform to nurture students into warm-hearted leaders," adding, "By diversifying volunteer work into activities linked with volunteer organizations, student-led individual public service activities, volunteer activities connected to each student's interests and suitability for their future major and career path, and overseas volunteer programs, we will pursue both quantitative growth and qualitative improvement in volunteer activities."

In addition, he said, "On the premise of obtaining consent from the local community, we will convert closed schools into spaces for various arts and physical education activities, establish a foundation for community arts and sports such as park golf, and utilize these facilities as spaces for character education."
He proposed, "If we hold a regular superintendent’s cup park golf league in the four major regions of Gyeongnam, and have teams made up of three generations of family members or neighbors participate together, it will become an educational festival that strengthens solidarity across generations, within families, and throughout the local community."
Pre-candidate Kwon said, "Education is not complete with grades alone; it becomes genuine only when it cultivates warm hearts and a sense of responsibility alongside knowledge," and added, "I will take the lead so that students do not become lonely geniuses who are only good at studying, but grow into warm-hearted leaders who come together with others and brighten the world."
