Field Analysis of Sports Science-Based Performance Support
The Department of Physical Education at Mokpo National University announced on the 23rd that it visited the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics site to analyze performance support systems based on sports science, and achieved meaningful results through field-centered research aimed at fostering sports talent in the Jeonnam region.
This research went beyond simply observing the event and was carried out as a "practice-oriented project" designed to precisely analyze sports science support systems actually in operation on the global Olympic stage and apply them to the development of sports in Jeonnam and its talent development framework.
A research team from the Department of Physical Education at Mokpo National University (Professor Lee Seungjae) and third-year student Han Sujin visited the site of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics to closely inspect elite sports support facilities and data-driven performance management systems. The main areas of analysis covered the overall structure of elite sports support, including: designing physical training programs based on the characteristics of each sport, pre- and post-competition conditioning strategies, injury prevention and rehabilitation protocols, and data-driven performance management systems.
In particular, the participation of third-year student Han Sujin from the Department of Physical Education in this field research drew attention. She had the opportunity to directly experience sports science support systems at an international sporting event and to enhance her practical competencies.
Han Sujin said, "In a world-class sports science environment, I was able to see firsthand how training and conditioning systems tailored to the characteristics of each sport are applied, and through this experience I gained a deep understanding of the importance of field-centered professional competencies."
Professor Lee Seungjae stressed, "Fostering sports talent in Jeonnam can secure real competitiveness only when field experience is combined with sports science research, going beyond theory-centered education. We will continue to build a global sports science talent development model that links the university with regional sports organizations and to lay the groundwork for strengthening the international competitiveness of sports in Jeonnam."
The outcomes of this research were achieved through close cooperation with the Jeonnam Sports Council and will be used as strategic data to establish a more scientific and systematic talent development policy for sports in Jeonnam. They are also expected to serve as key foundational data for expanding global sports science cooperation networks and building a region-based elite sports support model.
The Department of Physical Education at Mokpo National University plans to continue strengthening sports science-based education and field-oriented practical programs, dedicating itself to nurturing professional talent who will represent both the region and the nation.
