Second Vice Minister Ryu Jemyung Meets with U.S. State Department Advisor...Strengthening Technology Cooperation

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 23rd that Second Vice Minister Ryu Jemyung met with Michael Needham, an advisor to the U.S. Department of State, and exchanged views on major areas of cooperation and mutual interest between the two countries, including cooperation in science, technology and digital affairs, and the implementation of the joint fact sheet.


At the meeting, Vice Minister Ryu expressed a strong commitment to swift implementation regarding the two governments’ agreement to launch a working group based on the Korea-U.S. Technology Prosperity Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The two countries had previously signed the MOU and issued a joint statement on the launch of the working group, on the occasion of the Korea-U.S. bilateral meeting at the AI Safety Summit in India.


The two sides discussed the current status of cooperation and mutual interests in key technology fields such as AI, and agreed to pursue tangible outcomes through the working group.


Vice Minister Ryu requested close cooperation to successfully hold the 12th Korea-U.S. Joint Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation within this year. He also stressed that Advisor Needham should play an active bridging role so that strategic science and technology cooperation between the two countries can advance to the next level.
