Goyang City to Hold Architectural Design Competition Until the 27th
An "Innovative Hub" Encompassing Administration, Welfare, and Culture Anticipated
Putting an End to the "Temporary Government Office Era" After the 2021 District Split
Targeting Opening in the First Half of 2029
Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) is moving forward in earnest with the construction of the Tanhyeon 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center, which has been operating with a temporary government office system since the district was split in 2021.
The city announced on the 23rd that it will proceed with the "Architectural Design Competition for the Construction of the Tanhyeon 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center," which is expected to become a new landmark in the area, until the 27th of this month.
This construction project has been prepared to resolve the inconvenience experienced by residents due to limited space following the district split, and to actively respond to the rapidly increasing demand for administrative and welfare services.
In particular, the city plans to present a "resident-friendly public architecture model" that goes beyond a government office for simple civil complaint processing and instead serves as a place where citizens can communicate and enjoy culture.
The Tanhyeon 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center will be built with a total project cost of approximately 10.9 billion won in the vicinity of 106-1 Tanhyeon-dong, Ilsanseo-gu. The building will consist of one basement floor and four above-ground floors, with a total floor area of around 2,700 square meters, and the city aims to open it in the first half of 2029, pushing the project forward at a rapid pace.
The core elements of this design competition are: the variability of space, creative design, and openness to citizens. The city plans to develop the Tanhyeon 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center into a complex hub that integrates administration, welfare, and culture, transforming it into a space where residents can feel a sense of pride in their daily lives.
Registration for participation in the architectural design competition will be accepted until the 27th of this month. After submissions are received on April 13, the final winning design will be selected through a fair review by the Design Competition Review Committee. Once the design is finalized, the city plans to swiftly carry out the detailed design and administrative approval procedures to accelerate the construction of the new government building.
An official from Goyang City stated, "We hope to receive many creative entries that can elevate the quality of public architecture in Goyang Special City to a higher level," adding, "We will focus our administrative capabilities on resolving the inconvenience of citizens who have long been waiting for a new government office building and on ensuring that a symbolic administrative welfare center representing the region is built."
